Smart mapping produces a comprehensive home map to aid the S9+ to navigate efficiently and determine routes. It also self-empties, which means it doesn't require any intervention from you during the cleaning process and it can return to its base and recharge during the cleaning (though it's possible to hear it be a rumbling sound back to its dock once it settles down the sound, which sounds like the sound of a jet engine taking off). The s9+ was able to move around obstacles like tables and power cables with any issue. It never lost charge and did not get stuck. It doesn't have the hazard-avoidance features of recent models, and could get caught in tassels of rug and other obstacles that it isn't able to see.

The s9+ has an uniform front, which is not the case with most circular robots. It also has a squared-off front which makes it easier to reach corners than models with curving fronts. It's also quieter than the previous iRobot model we tried and is smaller than the Neato Botvac D7. It's not inexpensive, but you'll get a lot for your money when you consider the quality of its operation and that you don't have worry about emptying your dirty bin afterwards. It's also often on sale at Black Friday, Cyber Monday and Amazon Prime Day.

2. iRobot Roomba j7+

The j7+ is one of the smartest robot cleaners available. It's equipped with iRobot Genius technology that gives it the ability to recognize obstacles and move around them, which means that you don't have to worry about it smashing into walls or furniture. It slows down when it comes closer to an object in order to gently clean its edges. This is particularly helpful when you have pets that leave messes behind.

Another amazing feature of the j7+ is that it can mop and vacuum using a specially designed mopsitter. When it notices that you're on a floor that needs to be cleaned it will switch to the normal cleaning mode and deploys an arm that is a tiny robot with a pad attached. It swept the floor using a gentle touch, leaving my floors looking and feeling like they had been thoroughly cleaned.

After it's finished mopping, the j7+ returns to its dock and recharges. It then drives to the spot where it started, and continues to clean. It runs for about 85 minutes at my house and can be minus or plus a few minutes. That's less than the s9+, but it's still impressive for a machine that does both vacuuming as well as mopping.

As with other iRobot cleaners, the j7+ identifies obstacles that block its path and eliminates them. It also has what iRobot calls Cliff Detect Technology, which stops it from falling down stairs. It's a great safety feature for families with kids.

The onboard bin of the j7+ is small, which means you'll need return it to the dock to empty it regularly if your home is large. The J7+ can be stored easily. The Clean Base, which comes with it, functions as a charging dock, a separate dustbin and an internal bin that the j7+ can deposit dirt into.

To empty the dirt receptacle simply push a button that removes the bin. It can hold up to a week's worth of trash, and the process is easy enough to do from anywhere in the home.

This model is stunning on plain floors, but is a struggle on floors with low pile. It also struggles to take in large amounts of debris as the dirt compartment fills. It is durable and has a long-lasting battery life. You can extend this by using the energy efficient 'Eco mode'.

The Shark IQ is compatible with both Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant which means you can control it with your voice. Its app allows you to identify your robot (mine is Sharky Shark), remotely enable and schedule its runs, and also view your cleaning history, as well as any errors you may have received. You can also create a map of your house and create zones that are not accessible to the public.

The Shark iQ is more expensive than the iRobot Roomba j7+, but it has better mapping and app features as well as superior cleaning performance on all surface types. It also charges more quickly and gets stuck on rug tassels fewer frequently, which decreases the amount of time it takes to pay. This model is unable to keep away from furniture or pet bowls. The Eufy 11s is a compact elegant robot vacuum that gives great value for money. It sucks pet hair well and has a large dirt compartment, and can run for a long time on just one charge. It's hard to maintain, and navigation is a major issue. It doesn't come with voice control or a companion app, however, it has a simple use remote. It doesn't even send you a notification when the dust container is full, so you'll have to check it frequently.
